Turkey-free Thanksgiving dinners
Vegetarians in Motion (VIM) was formed in 1988 in Rockford, IL by a few dedicated individuals who wanted to provide education and support for those interested in a vegetarian lifestyle. People join VIM for important reasons - health, animal suffering, world hunger, and the environment. Monthly meetings offer potlucks and educational programs. In addition VIM sponsors an annual Turkey-Free Thanksgiving Dinner, serves lunch to the mentally ill and homeless, plans restaurant nights, and sponsors bus trips to veggie-friendly stores. Vim members participate in On The Waterfront (a 3-day festival held on Labor Day weekend), and help raise money for the Rockford Area Literacy Council at its "100 Men Who Cook" fundraiser. Vim News, the monthly newsletter, is a rich source general information presented in an easy-to-read format.
